How do I play?
Each day there's one secret footballer. Type any player as a guess — you have 8 tries. After each guess, every attribute (nationality, position, era, age and the countries they played league football in) is colour-coded to show how close you are. Use the clues to narrow it down and crack the player.
What do the colours mean?
🟩 Green = exact match. 🟨 Yellow = close (for example, the same continent or a nearby era). ⬜️ Grey = no match. For age and era, an ↑ / ↓ arrow tells you whether the secret player is higher or lower.
What are the different modes?
Daily — one mystery player for everyone each day. Practice — endless rounds with a random player, no effect on your streak. Career Path — guess the player from the countries they played in, revealed one at a time. Higher or Lower — decide whether the next player's career is bigger or smaller and build the longest run you can.
What is the AI hint?
If you're stuck, you can reveal an optional clue — a bundled cryptic line, or a smart, name-free hint generated by AI. When you request an AI hint, the puzzle's factual context is sent to our backend to write the clue — never your real identity. It's entirely optional; see our Privacy Policy for details.
Does the hint give away the answer?
No. Hints are name-free by design — they nudge you toward the answer without spoiling it, so solving it still feels earned.
How do streaks and stats work?
Solve the Daily puzzle to extend your streak. The app tracks games played, win rate, current and best streak, and a full guess-distribution chart. Practice, Career Path and Higher or Lower don't affect your daily streak.
Do I need an internet connection?
The puzzles, clues and stats work fully offline. Only the optional AI hint needs a connection; without one, you can still use the bundled clues, so play is never blocked.
When does a new puzzle arrive?
A new mystery player drops once a day. Turn on the optional daily reminder in Settings so you never miss one or break your streak.
How do I reset my progress?
Settings → clear your data removes your stats, streak and history. Deleting the app also removes all local data.
Is this an official club or league app?
No. Football Guessing is an independent puzzle game and is not affiliated with any club, league or governing body. Player names and facts are used purely for identification, and there's no real-money betting of any kind.
